Critters for Christ is an organization of dedicated volunteers and their animals who perform animal-assisted therapy visits for health care facilities and social and special needs programs. We serve people of all ages with physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs by sharing the unconditional love of God through our animals.
Hospitals, nursing homes, and other care facilities can be lonely and frightening for their residents and patients. Animal Assisted Therapy uses interaction with specially trained animals to help bring hope and happiness to these people. The animals provide a comforting friend. Patients who have this interaction have shown both physical and psychological improvements. For disabled people, the focus of attention becomes the animal, not the disability. The animals help encourage people to remain active and optimistic and to respond better to therapy treatments.
Oaks Presbyterian's vision is to extend God's call to people of all faiths, to empower people to serve God, and to ease human needs. Critters for Christ does all this and more. "For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you invited me in; naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me; I was in prison and you came to me. Truly, I say to you, to the extent that you did (these things) to one of these brothers of mine, even the least of them you did it to me." The words of Jesus Christ as recorded in Matthew 25:35, 36, 40.
If you have a willing heart to serve the Lord and at least a few hours a month to volunteer, we can use your help. Your pet should be friendly, calm, and easily controlled if needed, we can help with that. First, you must complete our application form, attend a New Volunteer Workshop, and have your animal screened at a temperament evaluation.
